THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Continuing a long-standing tradition, members of the Kani tribe living in settlements at the foothills of Agasthyarkoodam, offered ‘Thirumulkazhcha’ to the members of the erstwhile Travancore royal family at Kowdiar Palace on Wednesday. The tribals, including women and children, presented gifts which included a wide array of items like wild honey, fruits, bow and arrow and various handicrafts to the royal family members.

They also sang songs in front of the royal family members in addition to recounting the problems faced by them.

The visit by tribe members to meet royal family members is a age-old tradition and the family usually takes up the problems of the tribe before the State Government.

The tribe members were allowed a jeep by the previous government after the royal family approached the government seeking steps to ease transportation problems faced by the tribe.

This year, three representatives each from 27 settlements visited the Kowdiar palace.
