'Plans Afoot to Solve Water Crisis': V S Sivakumar

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Health Minister V S Sivakumar said that immediate steps will be taken to address water crisis at Gandhi Nagar, Eswaravilasam Road, and Cotton Hill school area. He said officials have been asked to increase the water capacity at the Observatory water tank.   

The Minister gave this assurance while addressing a meeting to discuss water crisis at Vazhuthacaud and surrounding areas. He mentioned that instructions have been given to plug the leakage found in the underground pipe near Vazhuthacaud, which had led to the present crisis. As part of increasing the water storage capacity at the observatory hill tank, Sivakumar said that directions have been given to reduce the supply of water in tankers from the Vellayambalam filling point.

The minister also said that steps have been taken to bring 100 mld water from Neyyar dam to overcome the water crisis in the city.

Councillor K Suresh Kumar, chief engineer G Sreekumar, superintending engineer Leena Kumari, executive engineer N Thomas Issac, JICA project manager P P Anitha, FRAT president T K Bhaskara Panicker and others were present.
