Shihab Thangal Memorial Welfare Society to be Formed

The Society which will focus on charitable works and addressing the issues of the marginalised sections of society is being launched in memory of the IUML’s patron

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a noble effort to lend a helping hand to the destitute and marginalised section of people, a welfare society is being formed in the district in memory of late patron of Indian Union Muslim League, Panacaud Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal.

The ‘Panacaud Syed Mohammed Ali Shihab Thangal Memorial Welfare society’ will be inaugurated on December 17 at Navaikulam near Varkala, in the district.

Addressing the mediapersons at a press meet here on Friday, A Sumayya teacher, president of the society said the society named after Thangal would stress on charitable works and ensure financial aid to the needy from the districtt’s lower strata of society. “ During the first phase, we will provide necessary assistance to the needy in the locality. Later, the project will be extended to the whole district and state. The charity works include group weddings, medical camp, blood donation, financial aid to cancer patients and aid to widows from the marginalised section,” she said.  The society will also lay emphasis in beginning new libraries and research centers for the improvement of literature among the destitute. The office-bearers said that ministers and elected representatives were expected to take part in the function.
