CM Takes Up Kasthurirangan, CRZ Issues With Modi

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy at his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi the other day, took up the issues of final notification in the Kasthurirangan Committee Report and amendments to the CRZ norms as per the expert panel recommendations.   In a memorandum submitted to the PM, Chandy pointed out that delay in issuing the final notification in Kasturirangan report has given rise to uncertainty and a feeling of insecurity in the region. The MoEF had issued draft notification mentioning ESA in the state.

Later as required by MoEF, the state completed formalities and submitted necessary details of the Ecology Sensitive Areas within the time schedule. Non-issuance of final notification has given rise to uncertainty, the memorandum said, while requesting the PM to direct to issue the final notification at an early date.  Chandy and his team of ministers also raised the issue of Coastal Regulation Zone. Kerala demanded immediate action to be taken to notify amendments and modifications to the CRZ Notification 2011 based on the expert panel recommendations submitted before the MoEF. 

“During implementation of CRZ notification, fishermen/traditional community in the coastal area of Kerala faced difficulties. It was brought to the MoEF’s notice. An Expert Committee was appointed by the Union Government to study various issues. It is understood that the Expert Committee submitted report suggesting revision of CRZ notification 2011 during January 2015. Immediate action is to be taken to notify amendments/modifications to the CRS notification 2011,” the memorandum said.
