Karakulam Achieves Full e-literacy

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Adding a feather to its cap in its efforts to make Kerala the first total e-literate state in the country, the P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra on Sunday announced that Karakulam Gram Panchayat here has achieved 100 per cent e-literacy.

Minister for Industries and Information Technology P K Kunhalikutty will make the announcement regarding this at Karakulam on January 13 at a function also to be attended by Palode Ravi MLA.

Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, A Sampath MP, BJP leader O Rajagopal, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, CPI leader Pannian Raveendran, M Vijayakumar, P N Panicker Foundation vice-chairman N Balagopal, Karakulam panchayat president Vattappara B Jayakumar and block panchayat president J L Sudharma would be among those who would attend the function.

The project undertaken by the P N Panicker Vigyan Vikas Kendra would be carried out at 100 gram pachayats in 14 districts in the first phase which is expected to be completed by June 30 this year.

With the second and third phase, the organisation hopes to make the state e-literate by 2017.

The project aims to familiarise the masses in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in acquiring knowledge and skills to improve living standards, promoting literacy through the use of ICT enabled lessons on touchscreen enabled tablets, reducing digital divide in the villages and creating gender equality by sharing information among others.
