An Eatout Which Sells Philanthropy

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  An eatout at Varkala serves an ideology along with each meal. The workers at Malabar Cafe can be seen spotting the logo of an NGO on their t-shirt and will tell you what all you can do to help underprivileged people.

It is the altruistic tourists which caused a change of heart, according to the eatout’s owner, C R Sanal Kumar. “ The foreigners will be interested in donating money. Earlier also, we have helped them find places where they can donate money. Now, we ourselves have a tie-up with an NGO called ‘Child Help Foundation’,” he said.

A portion of the cafe’s profits will be donated to the NGO every month, as part of the tie-up. “ In addition, we are financially supporting two children through the NGO,” said Sanalkumar.

The eatout approached the NGO, as the owner wanted to do something good. “ I had to struggle a lot, before I got here. I understand the importance of helping the needy,” adds Sanalkumar.

He says that they will support the NGO’s future plans to start a programme for the children of migrant labourers at Varkala.

The programme is yet to be charted out, according to Prashanth Suvarna, CEO, Child Help Foundation.
