Youths on Bikes Snatch Chains from Women

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In two separate incidents, motorcycle-borne youths snatched gold chains from two women at Chirayinkeezhu and Varkala on Sunday.

In the first incident, a 10-gram gold chain was snatched by two men from Reshma, an Ernakulam native. According to Chiryiankeezhu police, the incident reported around 6 am when Reshma was on her way to a friend’s residence. The police said they have begun an extensive search for the culprits.

In the second incident, a gold chain weighing 1.75 sovereigns was snatched by two men from a woman named Shobhana at Kavu Road, Mundayal, around 2 30 pm. The men who came on a motorcycle sped away with the chain. The Varkala police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Two Nabbed with over 1kg of Ganja

The Valiyathura police on Sunday recorded the arrest of two persons and seized one and half kg of ganja and several psychotropic tablets from them. The arrest was made with the assistance of the narcotic cell.

The accused were identified as Murugesh,32 ,a resident of Karimadam Colony and Fayaz, 43,  of Paruthikuzhy.

According to police, the two were nabbed around 9.30 pm under suspicious circumstances here at Tsunami park at Shanghumugham on Saturday.

They had reportedly smuggled the substance from Kambam and Theni. The duo were also convicted in similar cases before. They were produced before the magistrate and remanded in the judicial custody, the police said.

3 Held for Selling Online Lottery

The Fort police, with the assistance of the shadow police, on Sunday arrested three persons on charges of selling online lottery tickets at Pazhavangadi. The accused are Fayaz, 43, and Manikantan, 33, of Manacaud; and Kailas, 51, of East Fort. Police said the three were nabbed following a tip-off.
