KSRTC Staff Suspension: KSRTU Begins Agitation

Express News Service

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The KSRTU, affiliated to the AITUC, has started a strike in front of the Transport Bhavan, demanding revocation of the suspension of nine KSRTC employees who had protested against the unscientific schedules of long-distance services starting from the Enchakkal bus depot. The strike was following the failure of talks with the management and trade union.

“The management is adamant about not reinstating the suspended employees. So we have decided to stage an indefinite strike in front of the headquarters till they change their stance,” said Pradeep S J, a trade union leader of KSRTU.

The KSRTC management suspended the employees, including the district secretary of AITUC, for staging protest that affected the schedule from the depot on February 25.

The protest was following the death of a driver from the depot who met with an accident in Thrissur the previous day owing to fatigue. The trade unions blamed the management for putting undue pressure on long distance drivers with tight schedule.
