THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over a thousand tiny tots were initiated into the world of letters on Vijayadashami day in the state capital. Major temples, spiritual and cultural centres hosted the ‘Vidyarambham’ ceremony in a traditional manner with writers, politicians, artistes and cultural leaders leading the ceremonies.
At the Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, 130 children started writing the first letters at the Vedavyasa Mandapam from 8am. Five scholars under the leadership of former Sabarimala melshanti Goshala Vishnu Vasudevan led the programme.At the Saraswathi Mandapam at Kuthiramalika, 480 children were led to the world of letters. Hundreds of children, accompanied by parents and relatives, gathered at the Poojappura Saraswathi Mandapam for Vidyarambham. Over 1,200 children were led to the world of knowledge there.
Soorya Krishnamurthy, O Rajgopal MLA, former mayor K Chandrika, DGP Anantha Krishnan, Dr Vijayalakshmi and others led the programme.
At the Bharatheeya Vichar Kendram, around 50 children took part in the function. C G Rajagopal, P M Unnikrishnan, Ajayakumar and others led the programme.
Justice N Krishnan Nair inaugurated the Vidyarambham programme at Sai Gramam, Thonnakkal. IMA former president Sreejith N Kumar, Sai Gramam Trust founder and executive director K N Anandakumar, Dr M Subhadra Nair and Pallippuram Jayakumar were among those who spoke on the occasion.
Justice Krishnan Nair led the ceremony held at Sai Gramam where hundreds of children took baby steps in music, dance, painting, kathakali, tabala and keyboard.
Artists Lovely Janardhan, dancer Gayathri Subramanium, Janardhanan Karivellur, Choozhampala Genesh and Kalamandalam Arunjith participated in the Vidyarambham ceremony.Administrative Reforms Commission chairman V S Achuthanandan and Opposition leader Ramesh Chenntithala too led the children to the world of letters at various functions.
