FM Thomas Isaac promises loan for theatre groups

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Monday promised to provide loan and subsidy  to the theatre groups. Releasing the second edition of Prasanth Narayanan’s play ‘Chayamukhi’, he said financial assistance would be provided on the lines of films to 10 to 12 plays being selected by an expert committee every year. He said there should be permanent venues to stage plays throughout the year in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode. The government also will consider the scope of setting up such venues.


The minister also stated that the government would  give assistance to village arts clubs which stages own plays during Onam festival. 


He said in schools there should be permanent theatre groups promoting drama activities, instead of staging a play once in a while during school festivals.Poet N Prabaha Vartma received the book. Theatre activist D Raghuthaman presided over the function. Danseuse Rajasree Varrier introduced the book to the audience.
