THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan on Wednesday told the Lok Ayukta he had come to know only through the media allegations of bribery by some of his partymen from a medical college owner to facilitate accreditation to the Indian Medical Council.
In a sworn testimony, he said K P Sreeshan and A K Nazir were asked to conduct a preliminary inquiry into the allegations following media reports. However, he said the party had not appointed any official inquiry commission.
"They found the issue involved had nothing to do with the party. Some money deal was entered into at the individual level. I have not seen any signed report by Sreeshan or Nazir,” he told the Lok Ayukta. Kummanam said he did not pursue the issue as the allegations were not at all related to his party.
On a question if he had seen the preliminary inquiry report, Kummanam said he had not seen the report earlier but only saw when he received it along with the summons issued by the Lok Ayukta.
Meanwhile, the Lok Ayukta issued witness summons to Sreeshan and Nazir and the case was posted to September 27.
The Lok Ayukta had issued summons to Kummanam to appear before it on a petition accusing BJP state general secretary M T Ramesh and the party’s cooperation cell convener R S Vinod of having allegedly received large amounts of money to facilitate the recognition of MCI for a medical college.
