THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The All Kerala Private College Teachers’ Association (AKPCTA) has called for the removal of the National Service Scheme (NSS) coordinator of Kerala University over alleged lapses and demanded a vigilance inquiry into NSS related activities in the university.

According to AKPCTA president O G Oleena and general secretary K L Vivekanandan, the Regional Director of NSS had written a letter in August last year pointing out the lapses on the part of the NSS coordinator. However, the Vice-Chancellor walked out in protest when the Syndicate took up the matter for discussion, they said adding that it was an attempt to shield the NSS coordinator.

Quoting the letter, AKPCTA leaders said the Regional Director of NSS had asked the University about the number of NSS units functioning under it and the number of students enrolled. The University NSS coordinator has also not submitted the annual report of the last two years, they said.

The AKPCTA leaders also alleged that the NSS unit of the university was not following the guidelines of the Central government or the state government. They cautioned that if the NSS unit continued to function in the same manner, it would very soon lose its recognition. This would affect the award of grace marks to scores of deserving students, they added.
