THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Sports Minister A C Moideen has written to Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel on Saturday seeking his intervention to cancel the recent sacking of international footballer C K Vineeth from his job as an auditor at the Accountant General’s Office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Moideen applauded Goel’s decision to order a probe into the incident and requested him to initiate steps to reinstate Vineeth in the Central Government institution.

“At a time India is preparing to host the 2017 FIFA Under-17 World Cup, dismissing a footballer like Vineeth, who is a mainstay in the national football team, will set a wrong precedent,” Moideen wrote in his letter. “So, the Sports Ministry should intervene and reappoint Vineeth,” he said.

Moideen said the state government was willing to employ Vineeth if the AG’s Office fails to reinstate him. “I have read reports suggesting the Union Sports Minister will speak to the Controller and Auditor General to sort out the issue. If these moves fail to bear fruit, the state government is willing to employ the footballer,” Moideen said.
