Attack on hospital staff flayed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The IMA on Monday protested the attack on doctors and other staff of the Attukal Devi Hospital here the other day. According to a statement by the Attukal Devi Institute of Medical Sciences director M Jayakumar, a group of persons who accompanied an accident victim to the hospital on Sunday demanded they be allowed in the procedure room. When the demand was turned down by the hospital staff and by medical superintendent Dr Prakash Janardhanan, the bystanders turned on them. 

IMA state secretary Sulphi Noohu and other IMA officers who visited the hospital held a protest meeting at the premises and condemned the violence.IMA leaders urged the government to initiate immediate action invoking, among others, the provisions of the Kerala Healthcare Services Persons and Healthcare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and  Damage to Property) Act 2012  against the attackers. 
Jayakumar said they will continue with services in spite of the attack. The Attukal Devi Comprehensive Diabetic Care Clinic will be organised in connection with the World Diabetes Day on Tuesday.
