THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It’s said the next big wars will be fought over water. As part of its ‘Bonjour, India,’ events, Alliance Française de Trivandrum (AFT) in association with the Embassy of France in India and Bharat Bhavan is staging a play on the importance of conserving water and water sources.
‘Water Princess,’ a play by Theatre Nisha will be staged at the Bharat Bhavan at 6.30 pm on December 1.
“Water, like gold and oil, is a precious and scarce commodity. Most of the water on earth is salt-water. This leaves very little water readily available for drinking, farming and other purposes. The Water Princess is a fairy tale that inspires young minds to preserve this precious commodity,’’ AFT said in a statement.
The theme is simple to captivate young minds. An angry water princess, upset over the misuse of water, wishes to leave the earth.
But what will the earth do without water? Hence starts an adventure of three clowns who try to find ways to please her. Whether they succeed or fail in making her change her mind forms the conclusion of the play.
Theatre Nisha, founded by V Balakrishnan, has conceived the play on the theme of 4 elements: water, fire, air and earth. The Theatre was founded in 2000 with the aim of producing scripts that reflect social issues, however, not for preaching a ‘sacrosanct resolution’, but as a medium of speaking the truth.
