THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: City Police have nabbed a notorious thief alleged to have involved in several theft cases in the city recently. The accused was identified as Venkatesh, 39, hailing from Jayankondam at Tiruchirappally in Tamil Nadu.

Cases against him include the theft of 18 sovereigns worth gold ornaments, laptop and cash from a residence at Chalakuzhi near Medical College and ornaments worth 14 sovereigns and Rs 13,0000 from a residence at Kannammoola in Pettah.  

Venkatesh used to roam around in the city during daytime and conducts thefts in locked up residences, police said. “In case of suspicion among locals he would tell them that he was a drainage worker. He never carries any weapon but uses tools such as pickaxe available in the residences,” police said.
His modus operandi is to break in through the window or door on the backside of the house.

Venkatesh was nabbed by a special team of shadow police wing formed by City Police Commissioner P Prakash in the wake of rising incidents of thefts.

The investigation team headed by DCP Jayadev and special branch ACP Pramod Kumar included Medical College circle inspector Binukumar and sub-inspector Girilal.
