TIRUVANANTHAPURAM : District Collector K Vasuki has opined that rainwater harvesting system should be made mandatory for buildings exceeding 200 sq ft in area. She was delivering the keynote address at the workshop conducted as part of the conservation programmes in Kattakkada constituency.

The Collector also called for strengthening awareness programmes on water conservation. Caution should be taken against dumping waste in water bodies cleaned as part of the conservation programme. People can approach revenue and police officers for action against offenders. Grama panchayats should take the lead in sanitation activities. 

I B Satheesh MLA inaugurated the workshop. “The three projects, Jalasamridhi, Jaivasamridhi and Oppam, aim for a green constituency. Various government departments are making coordinating efforts for the success of these projects,” she said.Land Use Board commissioner A Nizamudeen explained the activities conducted under the Jalasamridhi programme. The workshop was attended by presidents of block and grama panchayats and peoples’ representatives.
