Nishagandhi music fest begins

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tabla artist Rimpa Siva will lead a special fusion programme of tabla, flute and Hindustani music at the Nishagandhi monsoon music festival on Tuesday. Renowned flautist Mrityunjoy Mukherjee is another star of the show. Rimpa got the basis of Tabla from her father Prof Swapan Siva at the age of three. Rimpa with her Farrukhabad style of playing could earn accolades at the tender age of eight. 

Her eventful life was the subject of a French documentary titled “Rimpa Siva Princess of Tabla”. She is also a member of Nari Shakti, an all-woman band.The show’s timing is 7.30 pm. M S Lavanya’s saxophone recital of pure Carnatic notes won the hearts of the audience on Monday evening. Accompanying her were M R Sainath on Mridangam, Uduppi S Sreejith on violin, Uduppi S Sreekant on Kanjira and Uduppi S Balakrishnan on Ghatam.
