Social Justice Department to conduct art and sports meet for differently challenged

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Social Justice Department is planning to conduct a state-level art and sports meet in order to identify the hidden talents among the differently challenged community.

According to the department, the meet will be similar to that of the ‘Keralotsavam’ event organized jointly by the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board and Local Self Government Department. “The state-meet which we were planning to conduct at Thiruvananthapuram will be attended by winners in the district-level competitions. The tentative month for conducting the event in September/October/November,” said a statement from the Social Justice Minister’s office.  A task force with Social Justice Director, Director of Public Instruction, representatives from Health Department, Sports and Youth Affairs Department and others have also been formed in this regard.

The intellectually challenged, those suffering from hearing impairment, visual impairment and locomotor disability will be allowed to participate in the meet.“The participants will be categorized under four age categories- 8 to 11, 12 to 17, 18 to 21 and 22 to 55. The participants have to register via an online registration platform set up by CDIT,” said an officer with the Social Justice Department.
