THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has accused the government of displaying apathy in its rescue and rehabilitation efforts amid the flood-like situation across the state. Party state secretary M V Govindan told reporters that Chief Minister V D Satheesan had failed to coordinate the operations.
“The chief minister has once again shown that inaugurating jewellery showrooms and attending banquets are of greater importance to him than the people’s losses in the rain-related calamity,” he said.
Govindan also highlighted media reports that Satheesan had flown by helicopter to visit his father-in-law. “However, he claimed that he went to Kochi by helicopter to meet an investor. Yet, he refused to reveal the investor’s identity, claiming that it would affect the investment prospects. The government also failed to coordinate the operation to trace John, the fisherman from Vizhinjam who went missing.”
Govindan also dismissed Satheesan’s allegation that former chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan had used a helicopter to attend political programmes.
“Pinarayi used the helicopter to meet the Union government team that had reached Thiruvananthapuram. He was attending a party programme in Thrissur when the team arrived. He used the helicopter to travel back to the capital, not to attend any party meeting.”
