VIJAYAWADA: The city traffic police on Tuesday held a counselling session for people who were caught for drunk driving at Indra Gandhi Municipal Stadium. Police filed cases against as many as 83 persons in August. The counselling was given in the presence of drunken drivers’ family members. As a result, drivers vowed that they would not repeat the same.

T. Nagaraju, traffic ADCP, said that due to drunk driving, not only do offenders suffer but also other innocent commuters become victimis of road mishaps. He said, “We will not spare any offender and file cases under stringent laws, which would pronounce two years jail term. If the offenders are in government services, they will lose their jobs.” Psychologist Pamarthi Krishna Dasu held the counselling session. He explained the disadvantages of consuming alcohol to the drivers.
