VIJAYAWADA: Mangalagiri YSR Congress MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy was arrested by Tadepalli police on Thursday in connection with a case of obstructing officials of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) from discharging their duties. He was later released on station bail.
During a public hearing organised by the CRDA officials at Penumaka in the capital region Amaravati recently where the officials discussed acquisition of land in the village, the YSRC MLA reportedly picked up an argument with them alleging that they were not recording the minutes book. He also threw furniture at the venue. Some of his followers also resorted to vandalism. Following the ruckus, the CRDA officials left the village without conducting the public hearing.
The CRDA officials later filed a complaint against the MLA stating that Ramakrishna Reddy and his followers obstructed them from discharging their duties. Based on the complaint, the Tadepalli police registered a case and arrested the MLA. Later, he was freed on station bail.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramakrishna Reddy alleged that the police registered a case against him due to pressure from Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. Asserting that he would not be cowed down by such cases and arrests, the YSRC MLA said he would continue the fight in support of the farmers and prevent the government from forcibly acquiring their lands.
