VIJAYAWADA: Walls of some of the buildings in the Interim Government Complex at Velagapudi, which was constructed a year ago, were found to have developed cracks after the recent spell of rains.

Despite spending several hundreds of crores, walls of several buildings and flooring at different rooms of the six blocks in the complex were found to have developed cracks.

In the fourth block, which houses chambers of ministers of irrigation, agriculture, transportation and excise, their peshis and offices of principal secretaries concerned, the walls were found with one-inch-deep fissures of three to four meters length.

The buildings were proudly touted by the State government as Andhra Pradesh’s pride by completing them in a record time. They were projected as an indication of how fast the construction of the new capital city was going on.

When the issue was brought to the notice of Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, who is also the vice-chairman of the AP Capital Region Development Authority, which owns the premises, he maintained that there were only air cracks.

“There is nothing to worry, as such things are normal in the new constructions, particularly in the walls of less thickness,” he said. The Municipal Administration minister said they have taken up repair works of those walls and the cracks will be plugged with concrete and painted over to look new.
