VIJAYAWADA: Displeased with the Hyderabad Bar Association’s (HBA) letter to the Centre in which it said that Amaravati did not have proper facilities for the shifting of the High Court, advocates affiliated to the Bezawada Bar Association (BBA) boycotted courts on Friday.

The move was a cause of inconvenience to thousands who came to the court complex in Suryaraopet on the day and some even requested judges for postponement of hearings.

“With no advocates working today (on Friday), most of the people went back as nothing could be done. For some important cases, judges postponed the hearings to other dates,” a court staff said.

Meanwhile, the unexpected boycott came as a shock to many who were present on the court premises for availing legal services. “I did not have information on the advocates’ decision to protest. I came from Gudivada and am returning as the hearing of my family’s case has been shifted to next month,” a petitioner said.

When contacted, BBA officials said the HBA’s move was nothing but an insult to Andhra Pradesh. “We will meet CM Chandrababu Naidu and other officials concerned seeking immediate shifting of the HC to Amaravati,” BBA president K Satyanarayana said.

On Thursday, the BBA conducted a press conference and decided to boycott courts protesting the comments made by advocates affiliated to their Hyderabad counterpart. They had said the temporary High Court complex, being constructed in Amaravati, would be ready by January 1, works for which were already expedited.
