BSNL adds ‘Wings’ to its internet telephony service

One can make unlimited calls with J1,099 registration charge

VIJAYAWADA:Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has launched BSNL Wings, a new internet telephony service based on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), in Andhra Pradesh circle. This allows users to make calls from Android, Windows and iOS-based mobile devices, tablets and laptops without a SIM card, utilising the internet services of any operator.

Registrations have already begun and the service will be available from July 25.Chief General Manager of BSNL AP Circle, A Purnachandra Rao said BSNL is the first telecom operator in the country to offer Voice over Internet Protocol-based call services.

“BSNL Wings offers unlimited calls to any network in the country with a one-time registration charge of `1,099. Users can download app ‘Grandstream Wave’ and make calls across the globe directly. Customers will receive a 10-digit virtual phone number along with the connection through which they can make and receive calls. Booking for the service has commenced through BSNL’s customer service centres and its website bsnl.co.in. Currently, around 22,000 people are on the waiting list.”

Rao said the service can be accessed from anywhere in the country without any roaming charges. Also, the users can make international calls and India-bound calls while roaming in other countries. “It’s not like regular internet calling apps. The customers can make calls to any landline or mobile number using the facility,” he said.

BSNL is also planning to provide wifi facility in all pilgrimage centres across the State.The public sector telecom provider has also come up with various other plans for landline, broadband and mobile connections.
