VIJAYAWADA: The employees union (EU) of the APSRTC has demanded that the management scrap the proposal to invite tenders online for procuring 141 hired buses in addition to the existing 2,719, under its fleet.

When contacted, EU additional general secretary P Damodar said that as per the norms, the number of hired buses procured by the corporation should not be more than 10 per cent of the total number of buses in the RTC fleet. Violating the norms, presently the fleet has around 25 per cent of hired buses in total, and 35 per cent in the district, he said.

Once again, the management has invited tenders for additional hired buses which would lead to entrusting the job of conductors to the private bus crew. Initially, the union will stage agitation across the 128 bus depots in the State, as a protest. If the management fails to scrap the proposal, a series of agitations will be staged and future action will be discussed after consulting the remaining unions, he added.
