VIJAYAWADA: A former news anchor has committed suicide, allegedly due to marital discord, at Edupugallu village in Kankipadu mandal of Krishna district. The issue came to light when the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the police against her husband and his family on Monday.

Mattipalli Tejaswi (25) ended her life by hanging herself in her bedroom on Sunday after having a heated argument with her mother-in-law, Annapurnadevi, the previous night, Kankipadu police said. Annapurnadevi found her hanging after she broke into the room with the help of neighbours. She was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her brought-dead.
“Investigation into the case is underway and we are ascertaining the reason behind her suicide,” they said.

Tejaswi was a former anchor with a vernacular news channel. She was married to one Pawan Kumar and the couple were residing at MBMR colony in Edupugallu with their three-year-old child and Kumar’s parents. The couple got married five years ago and their respective parents did not approve of it because both of them belonged to different castes. Their marriage was going through a rough patch, it is learnt.
Pawan works for a finance company in Vayyuru and was away on a business trip at the time of the incident.

A case of suspicious death was registered against the incident and Pawan Kumar, with his family, was taken into custody. Meanwhile, the body was sent to the government hospital for autopsy.
