VIJAYAWADA: Heavy rain lashed the city on Thursday, as the rural parts of Krishna district received over 7 cm of rainfall. Several branches fell onto power wires the city, resulting in power cuts. After a week-long spell of high temperature, the climate changed for the better after Wednesday’s downpour. As monsoon showers intensified in coastal areas, low lying roads in the city were inundated and many trees got uprooted, causing road-blocks.

For the upcoming week, weathermen are predicting a rainfall of more than 6 cm during daytime, and 10 cm at night for the district. Moderate rain with the thunderstorm is predicted in the rest of the district.

K Naga Ratna, weather forecasting officer at IMD, said, “The entire coastal region will receive heavy rain this week. For the next three days, rain will be severe with heavy winds and thunderstorms. Isolated places and rural areas will receive more rainfall than urban areas. On an average, 5 cm to 10 cm of rainfall is expected.”
