VIJAYAWADA: The police detained a man on charges of illegal transportation of 470 bags of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice on the outskirts of Nandigama on Monday morning.
Acting on a tip-off about the illegal transportation of PDS in a truck, the police intercepted a vehicle and seized 470 bags of PDS rice being transported from Jaggaiahpet to Tadepalligudem in West Godavari district.
The accused was identified as Nagulu, a mediator from Kakinada. The police said a few PDS distributors in Nandigama and Jaggaiahpet were illegally transporting rice to twin Godavari districts by showing fake documents.A case was registered at Nandigama police station and investigation is on.
