VIJAYAWADA: Two kids accidentally drowned in a pond in PT Kottur under Thiruvur town limits of Krishna district on Friday. The deceased were identified as Nelluri Chakravarthi (10) and Veeranki Lokesh (8) of Nara Koduru village in Guntur district.
The police said that Chakravarthi’s father Veeranna was a goatherder, while Lokesh’s had passed away a few years ago. Both kids, who were related, were visiting the Shiva temple in the region along with their family on Friday morning. The accident occurred at around 2 pm while they were playing near the Devasamudram pond and their families were away at the shrine.
The families could not locate their children upon looking for them and found their footwear at the bank of the pond. With the help of the locals, they fished their bodies out of water.
“We think that the two kids must have stepped into the pond to take a swim when their families were at the temple. Unable to swim, they must have drowned,” the Thiruvur police said.
