VIJAYAWADA: The Amaravati Development Corporation Ltd (ADCL) is likely to take up a feasible study to create cascades atop Indrakeeladri. While the proposal is still at preliminary stage, it will be a part of the city beautification initiative by the Corporation.

The ADCL has already had a few discussions regarding the possibility of creation of cascades. The officials have identified a few locations on the hill where there is a continuous flow of water, which will help the proposal.

“We have had a few discussions, but we have to ascertain the technicalities, including the safety aspect. It is still at a discussion-level. But we will definitely go for a cascade,” ADCL CMD D Lakshmi Parthasarathi told TNIE.

The ADCL has taken up beautification and landscaping of the hill, the abode of Goddess Kanaka Durga and Lord Malleswara Swamy. The ADCL is likely to engage private consultancy to take up the feasibility study as it needs expertise, the officials said. They added that once the feasibility was examined, they would send the proposal to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his approval.

“Recently, the temple trust board has sent us a resolution it had passed regarding some developmental projects put on hold due to paucity of funds. We will take up the issue to the Chief Minister’s notice and proceed as per his suggestions; it is not easy to develop and maintain cascades,” another official said.
It maybe noted that the temple trust board had rejected a similar proposal put forward by the temple administration in the past due to lack of financial resources. Two waterfalls were proposed by the temple authorities back then.

Meanwhile, the works of the ‘Dharma Chakra’ proposed at the Varadhi junction are going on at a brisk pace.

The ADCL CMD said the Chakra, with radius of 40 feet, was ready. She added the installation of the chakra would be done shortly once the civil works, which were presently underway, were completed.
