Vijayawada railway division nets Rs 5,907.2 crore revenue

VIJAYAWADA: The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway recorded its highest-ever financial performance in 2025-26, earning a gross revenue of Rs 5,907.20 crore, with passenger revenue rising to Rs 1,523.90 crore, reflecting a 9.93% growth, while transporting 74.191 million passengers during the year.

Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya said the Division achieved a record freight loading of 40.631 million tonnes, surpassing the previous best of 38.347 million tonnes. Freight earnings stood at Rs 4,166 crore despite concessional benefits extended to the power sector. Ticket checking earnings reached a record Rs 76.34 crore, while punctuality improved to 86.74%, indicating enhanced operational efficiency.

On the infrastructure front, the Division commissioned 152.54 km of Automatic Block Signalling and 50.051 km of third line to boost capacity. Speed improvements up to 110 kmph were achieved in key sections, while works for the advanced 2x25 kV traction system to support 160 kmph operations are progressing steadily. Major yard remodelling works were completed at Tenali and Mustabada.

The Division installed 10 lifts, four escalators, and constructed foot over bridges at eight stations, besides eliminating 31 level crossings to enhance safety. During peak travel seasons, 5,207 special trains were operated, ensuring smooth movement. It achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification for its Traction Department, a first in Indian Railways.
