Soothe your nerves with some Indie fusion rock music

Tanisha Das

With so many bands coming up everyday in the city, it is quite a difficult task to recognise the good from the average. But Aks, a five-member band has been the talk of the town since it started two years ago. Aks has managed to steal the attention of the crowd with their songs ever since.

The band started off in 2010 with Xavier Vishal Kichingia as the vocalist, Raveesh Tirkey on bass, Yadhunandan Nagraj as the drummer, Arjun with the flute and Sreedhar on lead guitars. “I am now able to give my full attention to music as I graduated last year,” says Vishal, a BBM graduate from Indian Academy College.

The band creates indie fusion rock music with influences from Junoon, Fuzon, Dream Theatre and Pink Floyd. “Aks means inner reflections of your soul. That is the reason we are trying to create the kind of music. We fuse different genres but keep the Indian touch, which makes it unique. We make our own music and avoid doing covers,” says Vishal.

The band has been very busy for the last two years with gigs and performances, not only in Bangalore but also in Delhi. “We performed at the Worme festival in Delhi and besides that we have done shows at Kiara and Cuppa in Bangalore. We also played at the Legends of Rock in Koramangala,” says Vishal.

Though each of them get busy with personal work and other music programmes, they dedicate a few hours a week to jam at Nagraj’s or at Sreedhar’s place. The have practice sessions two-three times a week.

Revealing their future plans, Vishal says, “Next year, we will launch our album. It might probably be released sometime in January or February. We have been talkin with HMV records but nothing has been finalised yet.”
