Neha Rao, a third-year student of mass communication at St Francis College for Women loves weekends. Her association with Make A Difference Foundation (MAD) makes the weekends worth waiting for. She gets to spend an average of two to three hours teaching and having fun with children. Imparting spoken English classes to students of government schools, shelter homes and orphanages, Neha teaches across four centres at Khairatabad, Ameerpet, Malakpet and RP Road. “We follow the Cambridge syllabus and MAD provides children with books and the stationery required,” adds Neha. She has also been a part of a career awareness programme for students, which highlights the opportunities available to them and has also accompanied them on field tours. Neha has also been active in campaigning across colleges. Her motivation for teaching is keeps her going, confesses the 19-year-old. “The response is amazing and the kids are always enthusiastic about speaking in English. This gives me immense satisfaction,” says Neha. This is an initiative she wants to pursue, even after college.
