Mentioned wife Jashodaben for the first time in poll affidavit
Narendra Modi who is contesting his fifth election from Vadodara, Gujarat, will do so as a married man this time. In the last four elections he contested, the ‘spouse’ column was left blank in his affidavits. Filing his nomination papers on April 9, he declared Jashodaben as his wife whom he married when she was 17. The story goes that they were married for three months and split ways amicably. However, their marriage had never been annulled formally. Jashodaben (62), who still prefers to add her husband’s name to hers, is a retired government school teacher and lives near Vadnagar, Modi’s hometown in Mehsana. The affidavit of Modi, who is also contesting from Varanasi, declares an annual income of `4,54,095 and has no income, PAN or return details filed for Jashodaben.
