On a high after the unprecedented success of Subramanyam for Sale, actress Regina Cassandra has been flooded with offers in the Telugu film industry and is making her presence all over the South. Regina also received praise for her performance as a host at the recently held IIFA Utsavam in Hyderabad. In a special chat with Edex, the actress rewinds her life and brings us a glimpse of her teenage version. Excerpts:
How would you describe your college life?
I did my psychology at Women’s Christian College in Chennai. I had so much fun and that is one period of time that I would love to go back to.
What were you like in college?
I have always been an extrovert. I was modelling at the time but was very tomboyish and when you saw me in college, you wouldn’t think that I was a model. I would wear kajal to college and could be seen in loose t-shirts and a pair of jeans.
What was your equation with your professors?
I’ve always had a great rapport with my teachers and lecturers. I was not really a teacher’s pet but I was never hated. I never aimed at being the first in class but I always wanted to do well.
Were you a quiet student or a mischievous one?
We were never the back-benchers, we’d just sit in front and make all the noise. We used to have knowledge of our subject so we would participate actively in class.
Tell us one memorable event from your college life?
I remember an instance when there was this Red Cross blood donation camp in college. I was turning 18 in the next two months. I told them, that I’m not yet 18 but I would like to donate. But they refused as I was still a minor. I made a huge fuss so they promised me that they would be back next year. So when they came back the next year, they invited me to come and donate. I was thrilled to know that they actually remembered my tantrums.
Did it help with taking your career forward?
I think everyone needs to go to college. Not just for a degree but for the whole experience. Because you are at that age when you’re still maturing and learning new things and there are a lot of other people you meet from different walks of life. College teaches you more than just your subjects. It has definitely shaped my thinking and most importantly, it has given me my friends, whom I would have never met if I didn’t go to college.
