DINDIGUL: As per the final poll roll released by the Election Commission (EC), several entries of names of the electorate had been wrongly entered in the Dindigul district as men were mentioned with women’s names and photos and vice versa.

The final supplementary roll for the Mother Roll of the Electorate for the ensuing Assembly election was released here on Friday, in which it was identified that the photographs of males, with female names and addresses had wrongly figured in the poll roll in areas around Palani.

Speaking to reporters, Nithya, Palanichamy, and Karuppathal said the photographs in their Electors’  Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) and the poll roll do not match. They said that they had known about this confusion last year itself when they received their EPICs and the poll roll was published. These denizens said that they had made several representations, but no action was taken to correct the wrongly entered data.

An opportunity was given for corrections in the poll rolls and the EPICs during a special camp held on February 18 and 19. The applications for these corrections had been submitted to the Assistant Poll Roll Registration Officer and Municipal Commissioner in that special camp.

Further, another set of applications had been submitted to the District Election Officer and Collector M Vallalar in this connection.

Meanwhile, the final supplementary roll was released on April 1 without carrying out the necessary corrections sought by these voters. Now, these electors are clueless on how to fulfil their democratic right for franchise in the upcoming Assembly election.

They wonder whether the Collector could do something about this mix-up,  which seems to have continued even after it was brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities.
