Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the electoral battle to the CPM’s gate by launching a direct attack on LDF’s potential chief ministerial candidate Pinarayi Vijayan and the party’s role in ‘violent politics’.

Kick-starting his second leg of election campaign for the NDA from Kasargod on Sunday, Modi called on the people to put an end to the “politics of violence and corruption” practised in the state.

“Kerala has been destroyed by the politics of violence. The communists have killed more than 250 BJP-RSS workers in the state,” he said. Four decades ago, the communists murdered RSS functionary and social worker Vadikkal Ramakrishan, who was not a threat to any political parties, he said.

“Today, the CPM is trying to make the accused in the case the chief minister of Kerala. Will the future of Kerala be safe in the hands of persons facing such a serious charge, charge of murder,” he chokingly asked a jam-packed municipal stadium. To be sure, CPM politburo member Vijayan was an accused in the case.

Then Modi introduced C Sadanandan Master, the BJP’s candidate in Kuthuparamba constituency in Kannur district.

“He was working for the poor but the communist party hacked his two legs. Today, he is standing on prosthetic legs,” he said.

“I want to ask those people who accuse us day and night, why are you turning a blind eye to these atrocities. I want to ask them what was Sadanandan Masterji’s mistake,” Modi said.

The Prime Minister said the country was oblivious of this violence in Kerala. “From Kasargod, I want to wake up the media in Delhi and the country to these violent crimes of the CPM. Kerala’s fortune should be changed,’’ he said.

“The corruption should go. The play of violence should also go. And you should give the BJP, which works for development, a chance. Kerala should come out of the politics of adjustment and allow in the politics of development,” he said.
