Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe can finally breath a sign of relief as the Venom film, which looked like it might not happen, has just been confirmed.

The makers confirmed the news with a verified Twitter handle named after the film, through which they tweeted a working photo. This picture, which features actor Tom Hardy, also confirms the speculations on who’s going to don the role of Spiderman’s doppelganger nemesis.

Although Sony teamed up with Marvel for Spider-Man: Homecoming, the production company is bankrolling the Venom film on its own, which, though risky, can spawn a whole new series if successful. Director Ruben Fleischer of Zombieland fame will be directing this film, which stars Michelle Williams, along with Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate, Reid Scott and Scott Haze. Reports are abuzz that the film will be a horror/sci-fi and might aim for an R-rating (the US equivalent of an A certificate) which worked wonders for Deadpool.
