Harris Jayaraj on the edge!

I am going to sing on this stage. Uninterrupted music, no comperes and no breaks in between the concert.

With his mellifluous melodies, Harris Jayaraj has been enchanting audiences for over a decade now. The gifted musician, who first shot to limelight with his Minnale, recently turned lyricist by penning a song for Engeyum Kadhal. Now, he is all set to go one step further and present his first live concert.

Yes, titled ‘Harris on the Edge’, the concert will be held in Chennai on October 2, 2011 at Mayajaal. What’s more, it’s organisers, Techfront,  promise that the concert will be a cutting-edge, first-of-its-kind affair for the city.

After Chennai, the team will proceed to Coimbatore, where they will perform on October 16.  The team is also slated to perform at Hyderabad on October 22 and in Dubai on November 18. In 2012, Harris and his team are scheduled to tour Europe and Canada.

Directed by A L Vijay of Madharasapattinam fame, the concert promises a different experience to audiences as it will have a 270 degree stage design. The stage will be  120 ft wide x 80 ft deep, with futuristic video technology complementing Harris’s music. Audiences will also get to enjoy 3D visuals for a couple of songs.

Says Harris, “This will be one-of-a-kind concert. Uninterrupted music, no comperes and no breaks in between. In the 10 years of my music career in the film industry, I have been approached for live concerts on several occasions but I have refrained from accepting such offers as keeping one’s audiences entertained for two-and-a-half-hours at a concert is no easy task. However, this concert will keep all of them entertained.”

The concert, in which 24-25 select compositions of Harris Jayaraj will be presented, will also see him sing for the first time ever in his own voice.

“As a policy, I never sing in my own songs, nor have I ever sung for anybody else but yes, I am going to sing on this stage,” he says.

He also adds that along with foreign performers, some of our local performers too will perfrom for his fast kuthu numbers like Andan Kakka..., Kalyanam Dhaan Kattikittu Odipolama....

That Harris is committed to this concert becomes clear when he says, “I have stopped accepting any fresh projects until January and am composing only for those to whom I committed myself before accepting this concert. Right now, I am waiting for the music of 7am Arivu to be out. I am also composing for Maatraan, which I accepted seven months ago. This concert came through about six months ago.”
