An evening to honour

The Chittara Kannada Short film awards which was presented on Friday evening was a springboard for young independent filmmakers. Five short films were nominated out of 212 entries and Madan Ram Venkatesh, an independent filmmaker won the award for his film, U-Turn. This short film was in competition with other four films - Kone Nagu, Please Save, The End and Bheeti. Apart from this, two jury awards were also declared for films, Khali Puttagalu by Pruthviraj Suvarna and Cinema by Jyothi Rao Mohite.The event also honoured five well-known directors from the Kannada industry. These senior filmmakers including, Dorai Bhagawan, Siddlingaiah, KSL Swamy, Geethapriya and HR Bhargava spoke and thanked on the occasion as they reminisced their past. "This is the first time we five of us have gathered for an occasion. Thanks to Chittara magazine for making it possible," said KSL Swamy. Actors Ravichandran and Tara honoured the directors with mementos. "I am blessed to have met the top directors of yesteryear at one platform and I am privileged to present them their well deserved awards," said Ravichandran.Other stars who attended the award night included Dhruv Sarja, Harish Raj, Bhavana Rao, Meghana Goankar, senior actor Sadhashiv Brahmavar along with Vijay Kumar, President of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), producers BK Srinivas and Soorappa Babu. The event also saw artist BKS Varma's magic who painted a picture in front of the large audience as a troupe sang a song. Later the painting was handed over to the KFCC. The event culminated with a dance and song extravaganza.
