The cast of Maryan along with the film’s director Bharat Bala launched the Big Tamil Melody Awards 2013 at 92.7 BIG FM studio in the city on Thursday.

Unveiling the logo of the award event that will be held on August 17, actors Dhanush, Parvathy Menon and the filmmaker, the event also saw the launch of the IOS application for the FM station’s celebrated radio jockey RJ Balaji.

Sharing a few words about the awards, actor Dhanush said that being a music lover, he was glad that an award was exclusively focusing on melody. “I have always been inspired by music for my work. If there is no music I will perish as an actor. It is nice to see an award that is giving so much importance to the melody aspect,” said Dhanush.

Bharat Bala pointed to the fact that there weren’t many songs that explored melody, and that it was largely exclusive to the songs made in the 60s, 70s and 80s. “This award becomes even more relevant , as melody has become rare in the songs of today,” he said.

Actor Parvathy Menon, sporting a new hair cut, stunned the audience and joked that she had opted for the hairstyle only after completing her second Tamil film Maryan and that it was not for the film. Talking about the award, she said, “I am fond of melody myself and this award celebrates that. I am glad to be part of the launch.”
