Anu Ranjan, Dubai Fashion Find of 2010

Modelling is fun. But, it is a part-time job, while you are working towards your final goal —which for me is films.

She has been ramp-walking for various renowned designers across the country for over a year now. And even though her parents, Shashi and Anu Ranjan, are the founders of Indian Television awards and have made umpteen television programmes and films, their daughter decided to venture into the other aspect of media — modelling and films, because she believes she can get into direction later on in life. She is the face of FTV and recently was titled Dubai Fashion Find 2010 by Ahlan Masala. Meet Anushka Ranjan.

Journey as a model

I started modelling a year ago. I am tall, but, earlier I was a healthy child, and had to shed a few kilos to fit the bill for modelling. Post that, I walked for a host of fashion weeks and that has pretty much covered all the Indian designers. I love the exposure and experience one gets with Fashion weeks — it is unbelievable — travelling around meeting new people, living with them — it is all an interesting experience. But, life of a model on-stage and back-stage is very different.

While a model has to look poised and sophisticated on stage, it is totally crazy back-stage. People may think modelling is no mean feat, but it definitely is a hectic profession.

Casually stylish

My style statement is being casual and chic. On a normal day, you will find me in a pair of jeans, and casual tees with flip-flops. Apart from that I only wear a hint of kohl and some lip-balm during the day. I also love wearing simple summer dresses. This is about my personal statement. But, when it comes to designer clothes, I love walking for bridal collections — wearing beautiful lehegas and sarees. And, for that my favourite designer will be Neeta Lulla. I love walking the ramp for her collections.

Fitness regime

Initially, when I was trying to lose weight, I used to live on salads, fruits and fresh juices. But, after losing all that weight, now I work towards maintaining it. I work out for two hours a day — which includes running, then weight training and some cardio. But, I don’t stop myself from eating whatever I feel like. Whenever I eat something with high calorie content, I balance it out later. It is all a balancing act, and nothing complicated.

Modelling vs Acting

Modelling is fun. But, it is a part-time job, while you are working towards your final goal —which for me is films. Currently, I do have a few offers in the pipeline — both from Bollywood and Tollywood, hopefully something will materialise soon.
