WASHINGTON: 'Narcos' star Wagner Moura is all set to the role of a top United Nations diplomat in an upcoming biopic by Netflix.

The 42-year-old will be seen donning the role of Brazil-born diplomat, Sergio Vieira de Mello, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter.

Vieira de Mello, who was reportedly branded as a "crisis junkie", was killed in a hotel bombing in Iraq in 2003 in an attack orchestrated by the al-Qaida. The plotline of the movie is set hours after the attack at Baghdad's Canal Hotel, where a top diplomat lies buried under the debris.

Along with Moura, the biopic will also star Ana De Armas, Garret Dillahunt, Clemens Schick (Casino Royale), and BAFTA award winner Brían F. O'Byrne.

The film also marks the narrative debut of Greg Barker, the documentary filmmaker behind Manhunt: The Inside Story of the Hunt for Bin Laden and The Final Year.

The film will be produced by Moura, along with Brent Travers of Black Rabbit Media and Daniel Dreifuss of Anima Pictures.

The movie is due to begin production in August, with a release scheduled for 2019.
