She grew up with greasepaint in her veins. And unlike the whole clan of child artistes in the industry, she didn’t vanish into thin air one fine morning. Sanusha whom Malayalis still endearingly call ‘Baby Sanusha’ has grown tall and prim.
The girl who is still remembered as the little Ambily who rollicked with a group of kids to the tune of ‘Dup Dup Janaki...’ in ‘Kazhcha’ movie, has grown up enough to say that her dream now is to play an action heroine. We caught up with the chirpy actress on the sets of ‘Idiots’, her second Malayalam film as lead.
“Cinema has been my greatest fantasy from childhood,” she says. “Having grown up in the industry watching several talented actors around, I always nurtured the dream to be a film star. As I grew, I had no confusion regarding my aspiration. In my second innings, as a heroine now,
I find nothing has changed in Malayalam industry. Everyone still shows the same affection that they have always showered on me.”
Sanusha is all smiles telling us how she plays a nitwit in ‘Idiots’ “My character in the film is quite interesting. There is a tinge of eccentricity in the behaviour of all the three lead actors of ‘Idiots’, Baburaj, Asif and me. Being an ardent comedy buff, I am thoroughly enjoying the shooting. I love comic flicks as they are stress busters,” says Sanusha whose first Malayalam movie ‘Mr Marumakan’ will release soon.
Sanusha has two movies in her kitty right now. One is ‘Alex Pandian’ opposite Karthi in Tamil and in Telugu, ‘Genius’ in which she shares screen space with Telugu actress Abhinaya. She says, “Movies are my priority, irrespective of the languages in which I act. I have two dream roles in my mind, one is to play an action heroine and the other, a differently-abled character.”
In her return to films as heroine, Sanusha has outshone in Tamil and Telugu films. She played her first mature role in the Tamil film ‘Nalai Namathey’ directed by Vinayan. But her big break came with the movie ‘Renigunta’ in 2009 where she played a mute girl for which she still continues to receive accolades. Sanusha says that in Tamil Nadu she is still known as the heroine of ‘Renigunta’.
