'Being a Movie Buff Helps Me Understand Stories Well'

A Sharadhaa

Sanchita Shetty, who is currently placed well in the Tamil industry with films like Kollaikaran, Soodhu Kavvum and Pizza II: Villa, is much talked about in Sandalwood as well. Sanchita is not the kind who easily gets convinced with scripts, and took her time to sign up a Kannada film. After a long thought, she chose to work with Akash Srivatsa in Badmaash that sees Dhananjay in the lead. “Being a Kannadiga, it is but a natural instinct that I do a Kannada film. When Akash came and narrated the script, I thought it was a good project to take up,” she says.

Sanchita says that she is confident about gauging  scripts today. “My plus point is that I am a movie buff. That has helped me understand stories well. I am mad about watching different kinds of films and have the capability to watch at least four to five films a day. When you keep watching different movies of various genres, you tend to understand the stories better. That’s how I learnt to analyse stories,” explains Sanchita. “There are upcoming and well-known directors who come up with good stories, but it all depends on how they narrate it. Also, when I hear the story, I first think about whether I can handle my character in the story. In Badmaash, I play an RJ. My character gets improvised step by step. I liked the concept and grabbed it with both my  arms. Though Akash is new to the industry, I felt confident that he would take the movie forward in the right direction. This film will allow me to work with a good creative team as well,” she adds.

Badmaash will roll sometime in November or December as both actors are committed to other projects. “We might shoot by the end of the year, when our dates match,” she says.

Meanwhile, Sanchita has four movies in her hand, among which one will be a bilingual — made in Tamil and Telugu. “I can’t officially announce about my projects,” she says.

Sanchita is happy working in any language. “I am overwhelmed with the kind of respect I get in Kollywood and thankfully, I have not faced any hassles. Though my family is settled in Bangalore, I have a home in Chennai. Right now, my concentration lies more in doing Tamil films,” she says.
