Bollywood films haven't really made a mark at the oversees box office in these first few months of 2015, but Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan-starrer "Piku" has changed that. The film has made $787,376 in its first weekend at the U.S box office, the highest of the year so far.

At an approximate collection of $2.3 million (Rs 14.7 crore) at box offices abroad, director Soojit Sircar's "Piku" has surely been the most successful Bollywood film in the oversees market so far, beating "Gabbar Is Back" ($80,428 in opening weekend). With positive feedback and good word of mouth, the film is expected to consolidate and make good money through the first week.

The domestic (India) opening weekend collections of the film stand at $ 2.273 million, also the highest for 2015 so far.

Piku released in 200 screens abroad including North America, Britain, Australia, West Asia and North Africa.

After a very slow start in the oversees market at the beginning of the year, Bollywood films like "Bombay Velvet," "Dil Dhadakne Do" and "Tanu Weds Many Returns," releasing in the next couple of months, are expected to perform better at the box office.
