GUWAHATI: Assamese actress Bidisha Bezbaruah, who killed herself in her Gurugram residence on Monday night, was a performer par excellence since her tender age.

Born to Aswini Bezbaruah, a litterateur and retired officer of the Reserve Bank of India, and Ranjeeta Bezbaruah of Guwahati, Bidisha took to singing, dancing and acting as a kid.

Her father hails from Jagara of Nalbari, some 80 km west of Guwahati and during every cultural programme in Jagara, she would sing, dance and also act.

She had earned state-wide recognition for her acting in the Assamese drama “Xanto Xisto Hristo Pusto Mohadusto”. But she was known more for her contributions in the fields of art and culture, particularly the dance form Bihu.

Bidisha, who had a degree in mass communication from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in New Delhi, earned popularity by dancing to Bihu songs in a performance by Bollywood singer Papon Angarag Mahanta for an event organized by Radio Mirchi. In the 2017 Indian mystery musical adventure romantic comedy “Jagga Jasoos”, she performed a Bihu dance.

Before her marriage last year, she had briefly worked with an Assamese channel.
