Sixteen years after 'Dil Chahta Hai' release, director Farhan Akhtar has opened up about his plans for the film's sequel. During a promotional event of his upcoming movie 'Lucknow Central', Farhan was asked about the same.

The 'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag' actor said that he has a lot of fond memories when he was working for 'Dil Chata Hai'. But much to the disappointment of the fans he clearly stated that he will not be coming up with the sequel. He said, "It is not necessary to have a sequel if a film does well, and fans extremely loved Dil Chata Hai, but it doesn't mean there should be a sequel."

Farhan Akhtar became a household name after the stupendous success of his directorial debut 'Dil Chata Hai' in 2001. The film with a star studded cast of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Akshaye Khanna, Preity Zinta and Sonali Kulkarni went on to strike gold at the box office.

It's been over six years since Farhan Akhtar has donned the director's hat as he has shifted his focus on his acting career. With 'Lucknow Central' slated to release tomorrow, the movie has been the talk of the town, thanks to an impressive trailer which received a positive reception from the critics and fans alike.
