Kote: Fails to impress

From our online archive

BANGALORE: If the script of the movie  Kote is anything to go by,  it seems director Srinivasa Raju has failed miserably in his assignment. Raju has to realise that the song sequences that appear at the drop of a hat or the stunt sequences that appear and disappear on the whims and fancies of the stunt master would not serve the purpose if the script is not apt.

For example, where is the need for a Bangalore student, who has already passed preliminary exams for the post of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, to join  a college in Hubli. The other interesting thing is the quality of that college. Neither the hero nor the heroine or even junior artistes who acted as college students attend classes. They will be seen either playing football or wandering on the college premises.

Here is another incongruous chasing sequence. We see a police inspector being chased by dagger wielding rowdies. The police inspector has a revolver but he neither uses it nor keeps at the right place. The result: he had to took to his heels when anti-social elements chase him.

The other unconvincing thing is the heroine Dimple Chopda. The director tells us nothing about her background. We see her always craving for hero’s hand irrespective of the situation or place, let it be a college campus or a road where the hero fights with goons. She falls in love with the hero at the first sight and needs just a handshake to evaluate his qualities.

It is not clear what made director Raju to import choreographer Shivashankar to play the character of a mangalamukhi (third gender).

The movie is about Vignesh (Prajwal), a college student, who happens to witness a journalist being killed by one of the henchmen of Katari (Ravishankar). As usual, a police officer asks Vignesh to identify the murderer. As expected, he identifies the murderer and the police arrest the accused but the court acquits him due to lack of evidence.

Katari wants to teach a lesson to the police officer but Vignesh comes in the way. Finally, Katari succeeds in his mission and decides to take on Vignesh. He asks his supporters to kill Vignesh. They attack Vignesh, who is on the way to attend an interview for the post of Assistant Commissioner of Police, with lethal weapons and left the place assuming the latter is dead. However, Vignesh attends the interview and gets selected as ACP for Hubli.

As far as the performance of the artistes is concerned, Prajwal looks pale in front of Ravishankar. It is the latter who walks away with all honours.

It is a worth watch for those who love action-oriented flicks.
